Fear is the biggest thing that holds us back in our businesses

You know the feeling… you have an idea, a thought, a goal - but when you go to act on it, you can’t. Maybe it doesn’t present as fear, but it presents as lack of motivation, or a new idea that is easier, or excuses that keep you from starting. I totally get that and have been there before numerous times too. BUT, here’s what I’ve learned: taking action DESPITE fear always leas to massive clarity. When I started this podcast I was terrified and just a few months in it’s completely reshaped and unleashed the entire vision for my business and for my life.

Sometimes your business really feels like your WHOLE LIFE

But truth be told, it’s not. It’s a part of your life and I strongly reject the idea that it is EVERYTHING. That’s too much pressure to put on one thing, right? Our business should not equal our self worth. That being said, it starts to feel like all you do/think/read/care about is your business at some point… and that’s when boundaries come into play.

As a service based business it’s so easy to fall into this trap that you have to be constantly available to clients because, well, hey, they are paying you. Boundaries are so important to maintaining a healthy distance, to giving yourself time and space outside of your business (and with your family, your friends, or even just your yoga mat), and unfortunately a few situations over the past few years had me learning that the hard way. Boundaries are a weird lesson because unfortunately you only realize you need them when you’re knee deep in the situation that you wish you had some boundaries around… take a listen and see what kind of boundaries you can create to better protect your time and energy.

EffortLess Podcast #6: Distill

You don’t have to do #allthethings to have a successful business…

And in fact, I think you should do way less than you currently are, probably. This episode is about distilling down in your business and only doing what is intentional. So many times we online business owners get caught up in the ‘next big thing’ or in doing what the gurus say to do, when in reality… none of that stuff matters if there’s not an intention and purpose behind it.

When I switched business models I immediately started pulling in so many clients that it was impossible to maintain doing everything ELSE in my business... writing newsletters, posting to Instagram, putting out new blog posts… all of those things suddenly seemed WAY less important. Turns out they WERE - because I had been doing them aimlessly, with no purpose, no intention, no goals. When I quit them all cold turkey - NOTHING happened in my business. I still made money. I still got clients. I was fine. That’s when I realized that those platforms, those items on my to do list, they were completely pointless to me if I didn’t have a real goal or purpose behind them, and I was just doing them because I thought I *had* to. Here’s the truth: none of that ish matters if you don’t know WHY you’re doing it…

And I get that. But this episode is talking about gaining that confidence, and stepping into that mindset of being ready to stand out and attract the right clients. Instead of playing it safe, offering what everyone else is offering, and picking your prices based on the rest of the herd… be willing to be unique.

How often do you ignore that voice in your head?

In the beginning of my business, I ignored it a lot. But, oookay folks, so this is episode 4 and we’re FINALLY getting out of the everything-is-hard part of business and into the real, exciting changes. I know it must be so strange to want to share all the hard stuff from the beginning, but I really feel like it’s relatable in so many ways to the struggles I hear from others and my hope really was to emphasize this idea that a) you’re not alone, b) you’re not the only one that didn’t have overnight success, and c) things do get better in business.

This episode talks a lot about trusting in yourself, your ideas, your goals, and acting on it. I hope to show you that you don’t have to do things the same way as everyone else, and you can trust your intuition and see amazing results.

Being a business owner is not always easy…

Today’s episode is about a really scary feeling in business or life... desperation. Desperate times do not need to call for desperate measures. Desperate times instead should call for you to STOP. Stop all this effort-ing and should-ing and reckless abandon. Stop, assess and evaluate, get some help potentially, and resolve the issue.

This episode and episode 2 (which is about burnout) go hand in hand, because these events were happening at the around same time and they both were big ah-ha moments that I know others can learn from.

Welcome to Episode 2… Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed?

Today’s episode is about something I am sure A LOT of you have experienced - it’s almost like a dirty word in business… burnout.

If you’ve been there, you KNOW how much burnout sucks. It’s like feeling mentally and physically exhausted and uninspired and just bad.

In my own experience my worst bout of burnout (try saying that five times fast) happened for one main reason: I would never say NO. So here’s your takeaway: Be WILLING to say NO. Be willing to look at something and recognize when it’s not a right fit, for whatever reason, and decline accepting it into your life or your business. You can set whatever boundaries you want, you are allowed to say NO.

The things we business owners don’t necessarily LOVE to talk about - FAILURES. Mistakes! The bad stuff! The part that doesn’t get a beautiful stock photo on Instagram, right?! We don’t glorify all the shitty stuff, right?!

But first I want you to know one thing: every thing that you consider a failure is a lesson. Every misstep or mistake can be a huge learning opportunity. And if you PUT IN THE WORK, you can overcome whatever adversity your business faces. Hell, you can overcome anything!
